The Night of Power – Layla-tul-Qadr

The night of Power or Layla-tul-Qadr falls in the month of Ramadan. The exact date of its existence isn’t mentioned anywhere in Islam. However, Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) asked Muslims to look for it in the odd-numbered nights of the last 10 days of Ramadan. It is among the most sacred nights of an Islamic year that holds ultimate bounties for the believers. That’s why special arrangements for Dua and supplication is made for this particular night all across the globe. Either you are in Haram through full month Ramadan package or elsewhere in the world; the person who gets blessed with Layla-tul-Qadr is surely the luckiest and most blessed on earth.

History.

Layla-tul-Qadr is the remembrance of the exact night during which the Holy Quran was revealed for the 1st time to the Holy Prophet (SAWW). The brief description is;

“On one night, Inside the cave of Hira, Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) was busy in his (SAWW) prayers during the month of Ramadan. According to the will of Allah Almighty, Hazrat Jibril (AS) came down to earth and revealed the message of Allah Almighty to Holy Prophet (SAWW); the first 5 verses of Surah-al-Alaq were revealed. After which the period of Prophecy of Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) started and so did the religion of Islam”.

That’s why Layla-tul-Qadr remains remembered as the Night of Decree. Allah Almighty mentioned in the Holy Quran;(description) We revealed the Holy Quran during the Night of Decree. [Surah Al-Qadr 97:1]

Significance.

Quran;

For believers, Layla-tul-Qadr is probably the most sacred time of the year to supplicate. Allah Almighty says in the Holy Quran about it;(description) the Night of Decree (i.e. Layla-tul-Qadr) is better than a thousand months. [Surah Al-Qadr 97:3]

Hadith;

Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) narrating the benefits of Layla-tul-Qadr said that; (description) Whoever spends the night of Layla-tul-Qadr in prayer; out of sincere faith and in the hope of reward from Allah Almighty, then his previous sins will be forgiven.

Best ways to spend the last Ashra of Ramadan.

The last Ashra of Ramadan remains referred to as ‘Ashra-e-Nijaat’ translating to ‘the Days of liberation from the Fire of hell’. It is the most important and significant Ashra of Ramadan due to a variety of reasons. So, here are the best ways to spend it

1. Recite Holy Quran as much as you can.

Since the Holy Quran was revealed in this month, one must recite as much of it during Ramadan. That’s why it is also called as the ‘Month of Holy Quran’. Read it with translation; understand its meaning; consult its Tafseer and learn the lessons taught in it.

2. Intend Itikaf.

Itikaf is a sunnah of our Holy Prophet (SAWW). Aisha (RA) narrates that; (description) during the last 10 days of Ramadan, Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) used to tighten his waist belt; prayed the whole night, and used to keep his family awake for the prayers as well.
